"I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source"
- Doris Day
While they can’t join us on Coastrek Event Day, our beloved canine companions make excellent training partners - they’re always available and will hike for snacks!
So, with that in mind, we’ve scoped out some great dog-friendly walking trails in parks, bushland and on the coastline between Perth and Margaret River to check out, as part of your Coastrek training plan.
Perth: Bold Park Walking Trails
Around a 20-minute drive from Perth CBD, Bold Park offers a huge area of bushland that features over 15km worth of dog-friendly walks and trails, including the Zamia Trail, a 5.1km on-leash loop trail showcasing incredible views of both the city and ocean. Access the Zamia Trail via the Reabold Hill carpark on Scenic Drive.
Distance: Approx 15km – but can be done in shorter stints!
Off or on leash: On leash on Zamia Trail.
Dwellingup: Lane Poole Reserve
If you’re wanting to make a full day of it, travel an hour and a half south of Perth in the Murray River Valley to Lane Poole Reserve in Dwellingup. Not only will your pup love the popular 9km Jarrah Track, however us humans love it just as much - we even have the option for a refreshing river plunge! Turn it into an overnight stay and camp with your pooch.
Distance: Approx 9km.
Off or on leash: On leash in Lane Poole Reserve.
Margaret River: Geographe Path
Although the Coastrek Margaret River route is off limit for our furry friends, being on National Park land, there are still plenty of dog-friendly walks to explore in the region.
The Geographe Path is a paved walking trail along the foreshore that stretches 23km from Busselton to Dunsborough. As a whole, it’s classified as a more advanced walk, however shorter jaunts are possible. The beaches on Dunsborough Foreshore are dog friendly, as is the spectacular nearby Bunker Bay. Busselton Beach is also dog friendly, along with the 4.5km Bush Loop in West Busselton – leaving no shortage of options for you and your pup to get those steps in!
Distance: Approx 23km.
Off or on leash: On leash on walking trails, off leash at dog beaches.
We love our dogs here at Coastrek – they are a much loved part of the pack and we’re always looking for ways to include them in our adventures. We hope with these recommendations you can get out in nature and make some happy memories with your pup, while getting some kms under your training belt!
